It’s a rest day on Blesfontein for us. Initially we wanted to ride out to Ouberg pass but decided against it, opting instead to do maintenance, visit the escarpment and just do nothing. It’s a chilly morning with a light wind blowing when we ride the 5km to the escarpment after breakfast. We are rewarded with a great view and it feels like you can see forever.

When we return it’s time to wash and replace air filter, check oil levels and fix anything that might have broken during the previous days riding. Belsfontein is a primarily sheep and alpacas farm. The alpacas is actually used for more than their wool. They protect the sheep from predators. While they are not attack animals they can put up a hell of a racket whenever a predator is close and they will run or chase after an intruder. Interestingly having more than one alpaca to guard a herd is less effective than just having one because it could prevent them from bonding with the sheep.
