Seems like we will be having some great riding weather today. There is not a cloud in the sky.
When we get to the local sports club where we will be having breakfast before the start I already started taking of layers. Even though we will be getting a light lunch later we are also treated with a nice snack pack with goodies we can nibble on when we stop.
The planned route today takes us around Kompas Berg through some of the most beautiful farms. The weather forecast for later the day indicates overcast with possible rain and right now that is difficult to see but weather can change quickly.
Our first stop of the day was at the Stonefolk site. This is a collection of stone statues made by Ryno just outside Nieu Bethesda and it has become almost as famous as the Owl House.
From the Stonefolk site it’s a short ride to the farm Doornberg where we receive a warm welcome by Peet and his 3 lovely daughters. We are treated to coffee, tea, muffins and rusks. Peet tells us a bit about the history of the farm. The farmhouse dates back to the 1700’s.
Our next stop is for lunch at a big Victorian house with an indoor pool, totally unexpected in this environment.
After lunch we have a short 35km ride back to our starting point in Nieu Bethesda. Tonight we will be treated with a braai by the local community.
Cell phone reception is sporadic to zero in between the mountains so live tracking stalls for a bit since my tracking app relies on GMS availability. At least all the data points are logged and captured once a signal becomes available.
There is a 90% prediction for rain tomorrow which will make riding conditions a bit iffy for the two wheelers so we will see how it pans out.
