We are busy planning one of our bucket list trips. It will take place during December 2021 and the plan is to travel the entire South African coastline. The starting point will be in Gauteng from where we will move west through the Northern Cape to the West Coast. From here we will continue south along the coast all the way up to East Coast to Jozini where we will head inland again.
We will be doing a few things differently from our previous trips. Due to time constraints (we have 3 weeks) we will be sticking to tarmac for most of the journey, only venturing onto gravel to do some nice passes. Traveling off-road requires that you have a significant time buffer when you do not know the road conditions since speeds could drop to single digits quite easily.
We will also be making use of B&B accommodation only using the tent as a backup.
Some interesting facts:
- Average estimated speed = 80Km/h
- Average estimated distance travelled per day = 335km
- Longest distance per day = 439km
- Shortest distance per day = 124km
- Estimated total distance = 5350km
- Estimated duration = 19 days
- Estimated fuel consumption = 10Km/l
- Estimated cost = PRICELESS
